Below we show how to create a custom WordPress template, this will give you more control over pages you develop, good for landing pages where you might want to do more unique things without the worry about how it will affect other pages.

1. Find the directory where your theme lives.
Usually something like “/wp-content/themes/theme” Where theme is the name of your theme.

2. Create your custom template in the directory from Step 1.
Give it a name like “landing_page.php” and insert the following code seen in Step 3.

3. Insert the following code into the landing page template.

Template Name: Landing Page
*/
?>
<?php get_header(); ?>
This is my landing page!
<?php get_footer();
?>

4. That’s it, you have just created a WordPress template.
The Template Name: Landing Page tells WordPress that this will be a custom page template, where Landing Page is the name that will show up in the drop down selector when you create your page.

What’s a template good for?

A template will lay the basic architecture for a page, you may wish to have a different template for things like news, events, galleries, landing pages, etc. Any page you have that you would like to look much different from the rest of your site may be the time for creating a template.

How to setup Google Analytics on WordPress

This is a short guide for setting up Google Analytics on WordPress, Google Analytics is used for tracking the visitors that come to your website. The data Google Analytics collects can be used for making intelligent business and marketing decisions.

1. Head over to https://analytics.google.com/ and click Sign Up.
This is a very simple process that takes less than 2 minutes. Your Google Analytics account will link to your Gmail account, apparently you can have up to 100 sites tracked at the same time from your one Gmail account.

2. Once signed you should find a snippet of code like this.
This snipped will look something like this. You can copy and paste this snippet into every page on your website that you wish to track. Remember to change the ‘TRACKING ID’ with the Tracking ID from your own google analytics account.

3. Edit header.php in your theme’s base directory.
The header.php in your themes base directory should be included on every page we wish to track, so this is where we will inset the code from step 2.

4. Paste the code from Google Analytics right after the <body> tag.
Copy the code from step 2 into the header.php as mentioned in step 3 just after the <body&rt; tag.

5. You can now start reporting though Google Analytics
It can take from 12 to 24 hours before you will have any useful stats.

How to Create a WordPress Blog

Below we will cover how to create a WordPress blog like this one. This can easily be one of the best ways to improve your SEO and it only takes a few minutes to setup. This is just another one of the many things we do as part of our SEO for our clients.

1. Login and choose Pages->Add New from the dashboard.
For the adventurous ones, the templates is index.php the base of your theme directory.

2. Type the name for your Blog in the box provided.
This will be the main page for your Blog. Calling the page “blog” is fine.

3. Scroll down and Click “Publish”.
We leave the rest of the page blank as this will be filled in by the blog itself.

4. Now Choose Settings->Reading from the dashboard.
Here we wish to set the Blog to be a Posts Page.

5. Select the page you just created from the Posts Page drop-down list.
This is setting the Blog to a Posts Page. Other settings on this page may be of interest too.

6. Click the Save Changes button.
Your blog as now been saved and you can access it from the web at http://yourwebsite.com.au/blog
(where blog is the name of your blog from step 2.)
